Classroom Procedures
-
Enter quietly. Our class begins when you walk in the door. When you enter the classroom, any seatwork on the board is to be begun immediately. The beginning of class is also the time to write down your homework in your student planner.
-
Bathroom Pass is your planner. The class will take a morning break and an afternoon break, please go during these times.
-
Desks. Keep all of your materials in your backpack. Keep your desk neat at all times.
-
Do not leave the classroom until the teacher has released the class.
Assignment Planners
You will be given your own Assignment Planner. As a class, we will fill out our Assignment Planners---DAILY. There will be a box for you to write the day's homework assignments for every subject. Almost everything we do during the day should be written in the planner. Some of the work may be completed in class and other work will need to be completed at home.
I would appreciate a parent signature in the signature box each and every night signifying to me that your parents have seen the Assignment Planner and were made aware of any homework you had. I am aware that there are times when your parent will be unable to sign you planner, but your participation will aid in home communication greatly.
I will occasionally write notes for you or your parents in the Assignment Planner and I would like you to feel free to do the same for me. This is an effective way to communicate needs, concerns, or praises.
Grading Policy
Your child's grades will be based on the following scale:
A 90-100
B 80-89
C 70-79
D 60-69
F 0 - 59
Tests, quizzes, and special projects will be worth 60% of their final grade, while class work, homework, and participation comprise the remaining 40%.
Makeup Work
Students are given one day for each day absent from school to turn in all make up work. Please remind your student to ask for their assignments when they return. If you know they are going to be out of class, please contact their teachers for assignments. If a student fails to turn in his/her homework assignment when it is due, he/she may turn it in the next day for half credit. On the progress report, missing assignments are marked as "mi". If a student turns in an assignment late there will be a comment on the progress report. If a student turns in a missing assignment more than one day late, the "mi" will change to a "zero".
Progress Reports
Progress reports will be updated weekly on the powerschools site. You should review the report with your child, and add any comments. I am prompted to check daily for comments when I take attendance. Communication
I want you to feel free to contact me whenever you need. You may write a note to me in your child's Assignment Planner, call my classroom, or e-mail me. Please be aware that I will not answer my phone during school hours but will still be able to receive voice mail. I will return calls received via voice mail within 24 hours. Again, e-mail is probably the most efficient and effective way to reach me.

Negative Consequences
We will be using the three strikes you're out policy. First strike sends you to the "penalty box" to sign in. Strike two is a 5 min refocus in the penalty box followed by a public apology to the class. Third strike sends you out to another classroom to refocus for 30 min and a character slip is filled out and sent home. The office will handle any further disruption.
